| The Establishment and Operation of the Day School |
 | | The School of Transfiguration. | The effort to establish the Day School began in mid-1964, according to the information given by the community magazine, "Metamorphosis." From May of the same year, the community general assembly authorized the opening of a savings account for the fulfillment of the aforementioned goal. In October 1965, a committee composed of all the past presidents of the community, still living, was formed to oversee the construction of the school building. On December 5, 1966 the contract for the construction of the school building was signed.
The ground-breaking ceremony took place on Christmas 1966, presided over by Metropolitan Germanos of Hierapolis, with politicians and a multitude of faithful in attendance. The cornerstone was put in place on Sunday, May 27, 1967, and the opening of the school building took place on Sunday, September 10, 1967. Classes commenced the next day, with 125 students attending, and Edward Stanley serving as the first principal.
The school numbered 186 students during the school year 2000-2001, with an experienced staff of 23 certified teachers, under the administration of the principal, Mrs. Helen Lydakis. The School of Transfiguration is a Greek-American parochial school, with classes starting from Pre-Kindergarten until Ninth grade. The innovative educational programs offered at the School of Transfiguration allow many graduates to enter into some of the most prestigious high schools in New York, such as Bronx Science, Townsend Harris, Stuvesant, Brooklyn Technical, and Saint Francis Prep..

| The Classrooms and Activities of the School |
The School of Transfiguration has three floors and is made up of 10 classrooms, in addition to a computer room, a science lab, a gymnasium, and a lunchroom. There is also a playground, the principal's office, the teacher's lounge, the school office, the copier-machine room, eight bathrooms, and a parking lot.
Aside from the classes required by the New York State Department of Education, all the students attend Greek language and religion classes, regardless of nationality or denomination.
The students' activities for the school year include marching in the annual Greek Independence Day parade held on March 25, at Fifth Avenue, in New York City. They also attend classes in Greek folk dancing and music, and participate in sporting events, such as playing on the basketball and soccer teams. Furthermore, each year, the senior class goes on an educational trip to a European city. With the help of their teachers, the students put together shows and theatrical performances for Christmas, Easter, March 25th, October 28th, carnival, graduation, a talent show, and other special occasions. Upon invitation, the school choir and dance group participate in events organized throughout the Greek community.
Our students participate in various public welfare programs, such as an annual fund drive, where they give food to the needy and homeless. They are also involved in the program Big Brother, where the ninth-grade students "adopt" their younger classmates, aiding in their development and creating a healthy family atmosphere. Recently, in conjunction with the Education Office of the Holy Archdiocese of America, the school became interactive, connecting to the Internet to better familiarize students with the latest technology.
The students of the ninth grade participate in many State Regents Examinations. This allows them to complete their overall studies one year sooner, and as a result, obtain college level credits in high school. Therefore, when the students pass the aforementioned exams, they can finish their high school studies in three years, and take college credit classes during their fourth year. This allows them to graduate college earlier, and as a result, save money on college tuition. Our students are one year ahead of their peers from other junior high schools in the subjects of Math, Social Studies, and English.
